My husband and I love visiting New England in the fall and we try to do so each year in September.  What a glorious display of fall colors and crisp weather.  I am a Native Floridian, and it is great to experience some cooler temperatures after our usual Florida Summers.  We enjoy staying a couple of nights near the Boston area to catch a Red Sox game or two at the tail end of their season.  Our favorite is a Raynham hotel that is close to enjoy the Red Sox play.  Also, we go to some great restaurants my Husband loved to frequent when he was in college.  The Raynham hotel is a highlight for both of us.
