There is a so-called apocryphal story about Paul McKenna, that one day he was walking down a London high street when he was approached by a young woman. She asked him if he was Paul McKenna the hypnotist and excitedly began firing a barrage of questions, all the while staring at the ground. Paul asked why she was staring down, and she replied, “Well, if I look into your eyes, I’ll fall asleep instantly”. Paul, thinking on the spot, said “That’s true, but you’ll go into an even deeper sleep if I touch you on the shoulder”, and he reached forward and touched her shoulder, at which the woman instantly dropped down unconscious.
