I still remember when Mr Higgins passed away. It was as if the entire town went into shock. He had been such a permanent fixture that no one had even considered the possibility that he would some day simply cease to be. The funeral was enormous, more of an event than a gloomy ritual. The eulogy was a telling of just a few of the wonderful accomplishments in this man’s life, including so many ways in which he helped his neighbors and his town. I hope when it is my time to leave this place there are those who will remember me as fondly.
